The Thompson family played a large role in the timber industry of Tucker County in the 1800s, and later prospered in the region as farmers, business owners, and prominent members of the Canaan Valley community.The two men pose next to the "Headworks" invented by Fred Viering (right) of Babcock Lumber. Also shown is skidded Lumber from Blackwater Canyon and Red Run Canyon, W. Va.
